Applying for Sixth Form College
How do you apply for college?
Discrete sixth form colleges often have intakes exceeding 100 in any one year. Entry criteria differ but will usually involve completion of application forms, consideration of the student's academic track record, taking up of references and then an interview.
Sixth forms at independent senior schools will usually be different: as the majority of the intake will be students progressing from year 11 in the main school, there may only be a limited number of places for external students, in which case entry is likely to be more selective.
In every case, there will be a deadline for applications to be made. Places are unlikely to be confirmed until the GCSE results are available in August. Parents should ask the school or college for full details of its entrance procedures as each will have its own arrangements and requirements. Many schools and colleges provide application forms via their websites as well as by post or in person from their offices.
